Dr. M.A. van Huis promoveerde in 2003 aan de Technische Universiteit Delft, werkte vervolgens als postdoc in de HREM groep van Prof. Henny Zandbergen (2004-2009) en als navorser voor de Universiteit Antwerpen, in de EMAT groep van Prof. Staf van Tendeloo (2009-2011). Sinds 2012 werkt hij als voor de Universiteit Utrecht in de Soft Condensed Matter groep, in het Debye Instituut voor Nanomaterialen. Hij was gedurende 9 jaar het hoofd van het electronmicroscopie-centrum van de Universiteit Utrecht (2015-2024).
