Dr. Koen Beumer is assistant professor in Science, Technology, and Society (STS). He studies the societal implications of science and technology. Empirically he focuses on food and agriculture technologies and is especially interested in understanding the impact of science and technology on inequality.
He received grants from NWO-LTP, NWO-WOTRO, NWO-KIC and the National Growth Fund, amongst others, including for the CropXR project. He holds a PhD from Maastricht University and previously worked at the Dutch Advisory Council for Science and Technology Policy (AWTI), Maastricht University, the University of Amsterdam, and the University of Groningen.
He is also a member of the Utrecht Young Academy, the board of Future Food Utrecht, the NWO committee Jong-MVI, and he chairs the education committees of the national research school WTMC and of the bachelor programmes of the Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development.
