Kyra Defourny is a fourth year PhD candidate working in the group of Esther Nolte-’t Hoen. In her work, she aims to bridge the divide between the Cell Biology and Virology groups at the faculty, and bring together their expertise to uncover the role of extracellular vesicles (EV) in picornavirus infection. Her research interests cover both the pathways leading to the formation of virus-induced EV as well as their functional role in an infection setting, focusing on the functional differences between naked and EV-enclosed virus particles. Her love of interdisciplinary work brought her to this project, and starting from the perspective of extracellular vesicles as main research focus, she is currently following the science into new areas of interest.
