Julius completed his BSc in Geotechnology at the Technical University of Berlin. In 2024, he obtained his MSc in Hydrology from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, where his thesis for JCAR ATRACE examined the effectiveness of afforestation and hedgerow implementation for flood mitigation using hydrologic and hydrodynamic modeling.
As of November 2025, Julius is a PhD candidate within the NL2120 program under the supervision of Prof. dr. Hans Middelkoop, Dr. Menno Straatsma, and Dr. Jaap Nienhuis. His research focuses on the long-term effects (up to the year 2120) of nature-based climate adaptation measures in the Lower Rhine riverscape of the Netherlands. A substantial part of his work involves seasonal vegetation surveys and field campaigns during floods along side channels to quantify sediment dynamics. These biogeomorphological field measurements are integrated in Delta-ENIGMA.
