Having been previously employed as a PhD candidate at Utrecht University and the Meertens Institute, Joanna Wall is now Junior Assistant Professor in Linguistics at Utrecht University's University College Roosevelt and a guest researcher at the Institute for Language Sciences. Her submitted PhD dissertation Towards a label-less grammar focuses on morphosyntactic and semantic variation in the verbal domain, and on interactions between the nominal and verbal domains. Her broader research interests include: syntactic macro- and micro-variation, especially in West Germanic, the syntax-semantics and syntax-morphology interfaces, and language change. 

 

Prior to her PhD studies, Joanna obtained a BA (Hons) in French and German from Oxford University, a PGCE in Modern Foreign Languages from UCL and an RMA in Linguistics from Utrecht University. She also previously worked as a secondary school teacher in French and German in the UK as part of the Teach First programme. In addition to her research, Joanna taught throughout her PhD, on courses at Utrecht University, Leiden University and, in her current position, at University College Roosevelt.
