Trained as a medical doctor, but driven by my inquisitive mindset, I become an enthusiastic researcher that takes on challenging research questions in basic as well as translational research. I am experienced in mitochondrial bioenergetics, cellular metabolism, and apoptosis signaling. I have been studying these processes in cancers as well as in cholestatic liver diseases. Currently, I focus on developing multicellular in vitro systems to model liver-related diseases. Using these models, I aim to study cell-cell interactions during diseases progression and identify therapeutic targets. Next to my research activity, I enjoy working with students to bring out their best potentials.
