Hai Wang studied materials science at Zhejiang University in China and obtained his degree in 2009. Between 2009 and 2011, he finished a joint master's program in nanoscience at the University of Leuven (2009-2010) in Belgium and Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands (2010-2011), supported by the Erasmus Mundus fellowship. In 2012-2016, Hai conducted his PhD research with Dr. Enrique Canovas and Prof. Mischa Bonn and graduated with Summa Cum Laude in 2016. After spending 1 year in the group of Mathias Kläui at the University of Mainz as a postdoc, he has led his independent research group “Nano- optoelectronic materials” in the Molecular Spectroscopy department at MPI-P since 2017. As of June of 2023, Hai has started in Utrecht University as an assistant professor. Employing ultrafast THz spectroscopy, Hai’s research theme lies in understanding fundamental charge carrier dynamics, e.g. how electrical and ionic charges flow in nanoscale, and low-energy excitations in low-dimensional quantum materials and interfaces, relevant for energy and (opto)electronic applications. With my study, Hai hopes to contribute to the ongoing energy transition efforts towards a more sustainable and green society in the Netherlands and EU.
