My political theory research has two main motivations. First, I am motivated to offer a normative basis for policy reform that can address the contemporary structures of domination most prevalent in modern life (ranging from unjust markets to social media platforms). Second, I seek to provide practical philosophical guidance to everyday citizens who share responsibility for undermining injustice, particularly in the context of changing norms in our complex world.

I am a postdoctoral fellow working on Professor Ingrid Robeyns’ VICI funded project Visions of the Future. The project begins from calls for a new socio-economic model that could replace neo-liberal capitalism. The project seeks to analyse, compare and synthesise alternative proposals using a value-pluralist methodology. The Visions under consideration include, amongst others, degrowth and postgrowth, the care economy, property-owning democracy, universal basic income or services, the well-being economy, workplace democracy, democratic socialism, community wealth building and authoritarian populism.

My work builds on previous research conducted as a postdoctoral fellow of the Justitia Centre for Advanced Studies at Goethe University Frankfurt am Main and as a PhD in Political Theory at University College London.

My primary research interests include:

  • Neo-republican theory
  • Ethics of markets
  • Political responsibility
  • Feminist political theory / philosophy

I have previously held teaching positions at the London School of Economics and University College London. My work is further informed by my background as an elected Labour Party Councillor in Islington (London) and seven years of professional experience in international financial services policy.

I am the Editor of the Political Philosophy blog, What to do about now? https://www.whattodoaboutnow.com/
