Profiel

Gerard Vreeswijk studeerde zuivere wiskunde (hoofdrichting verzamelingstheoretische topologie) aan de Vrije Universiteit te Amsterdam. In 1993 promoveerde hij aldaar op een proefschrift op een deelgebied van de theoretische informatica. Gedurende 1993-1996 was hij als consultant betrokken bij de ontwikkeling en inzet van expert systemen in de dienstensector. In 1995 was hij op uitnodiging een half jaar visiting scholar aan de Washington University te St. Louis, alwaar hij samen met prof. Ron Loui werkte aan argumentatielogica's. In 1996-1998 werkte Vreeswijk als postdoc aan de Universiteit van Maastricht (informatica, Jaap van den Herik, thema distributed AI) en de Universiteit van Groningen (Wijsbegeerte, Theo Kuipers, thema computational philosophy of science). Sinds 1999 is Vreeswijk aangesteld als universitair docent aan de Universiteit Utrecht. Op dit moment is hij docent en wetenschappelijk onderzoeker in de groep Intelligente Systemen van het Department of Information and Computing Sciences van de Faculteit Beta-wetenschappen, en kerndocent aan de opleiding Kunstmatige Intelligentie. Zijn interesses liggen op het gebied van de theoretische informatica, multi-agent systemen, adaptieve systemen, en multi-agent leren. Dr. Vreeswijk is (co-) auteur van inmiddels meer dan 100 publicaties, reviewt toonaangevende wetenschappelijke vaktijdschriften, en reviewt voor de ERC.
