Ellen van ‘t Klooster is a PhD candidate at the Economics department from the Utrecht University School of Economics (U.S.E.). In her doctoral thesis, Ellen focuses on market power of tech firms, the way tech firms compete and the online advertising market. 

She finished the research master Multidisciplinary Economics at U.S.E. and a BSc Bèta-gamma and the University of Amsterdam (UvA). She is passionate about data analysis and followed a minor in computer programming at the UvA. Before starting her PhD, Ellen worked at the research institution SEO Amsterdam Economics, in the competition and innovation group. She conducted projects on a variety of topics, specializing in digital economics, data analysis and econometric analyses.

Ellen is fascinated by the present-day issues concerning digitization, and the rise and dynamics of big tech companies. Her research aims to contribute knowledge that supports a global economy in which tech firms serve people in a healthy and sustainable way.
