Chengshun is a researcher in the HPT lab, following his PhD research at CIMNE (Spain), where he worked on computational particle mechanics and sandstone mechanics. With a background in Mining and Geotechnical Engineering, his research focuses on multiscale modelling of fault behaviour.
At Utrecht University, he contributes to the FastSlip and MATURING projects, where he develops continuum-scale models of fault slip supported by laboratory validation. His work further integrates these models with multiscale FEM–DEM approaches to investigate fault reactivation mechanisms.
His broader research interests include the micro-mechanical processes governing deformation and failure in soils and rocks, as well as the development of advanced multiscale simulation techniques/software. He is an active contributor to the open-source platform Kratos Multiphysics (DEMApplication), and has developed a polyhedral-based simulation framework for non-spherical particles, along with DEMGen, a standardized tool for particle packing generation.
