I am Associate Professor of Ethics in the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies.

Principal topics of my research and teaching are religion in the public sphere, religious diversity, freedom of religion and freedom of expression, tolerance, citizenship, 'national identity', belonging, inclusion and exclusion, secularity and (post-)secularism, environmental ethics and climate change.

Since 2019 I coordinate the research focus area Migration and Societal Change (together with Ilse van Liempt, Marcel Lubbers, and Dina Siegel).

Since September 2022 I am director of the Research Institute for Philosophy and Religious Studies.
