I am a PhD candidate in the Department of Physical Geography at Utrecht University, where I research the influence of vegetation on debris flows. Using a combination of small-scale flume experiments in the Earth Simulation Laboratory, field observations, and numerical modelling, I aim to unravel how vegetation roots affect debris flow erosion and debris flow dynamics. Ultimately, a better understanding of the influence of roots on debris flow erosion will help us make more accurate hazard predictions and offer valuable insights for nature-based solutions to mitigate debris flow risks.

Before starting my PhD, I completed a Master’s in Earth Surface and Water at Utrecht University, where I specialized in earth observation and natural hazards. Alongside my academic work, I am actively involved in public engagement. During my Master's, I contributed to the Greenland Trees project, an initiative raising climate awareness through afforestation. I have also written two articles for Geografie.nl and regularly participate in outreach activities at Utrecht University, sharing my passion for earth sciences with a broader audience. Furthermore, I am part of the Hoe?Zo! Show team, which organizes theater shows for kids, where they can ask their questions to scientists.
