About the hosts
Jan ten Thije

Dr Jan ten Thije is senior lecturer Intercultural Communication and the Programme Coordinator. He obtained his doctorate with a dissertation on intercultural communication in education consultancy institutes. His expertise lies in the field of institutional and intercultural communication in multicultural and international organisations, lingua receptiva, (receptive) multilingualism, intercultural training and functional pragmatics. He is editor of the European Journal for Applied Linguistics and series editor of the Utrecht Studies in Language and Communication.

Valentine Guggenberger, Intercultural Communication student

Valentine Guggenberger is a Master’s student of Intercultural Communication. She studied English and American Studies at the University of Salzburg, Austria. In her BA thesis, she focused on the representation of the LGBTQ+ community in the Media. During her bachelor studies, she also did an Erasmus semester at the University of Limerick, Ireland. She enjoys travelling and living abroad, all of which contributed to her interest in studying Intercultural Communication at Utrecht University.
