Utrecht University is host to a number of research groups conducting world-leading work in the field of drug innovation. You will be able to follow a programme of study that reflects your own personal interests through a major and minor research project, writing assignments, and electives. You can complete your project at one of the research groups found in Utrecht Institute for Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), the University Medical Centre Utrecht (UMCU), the Hubrecht Institute, the Princess Máxima Center, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, or the Departments of Biology or Chemistry. These research groups tackle a range of research topics that are unique within the Netherlands. Many of these research groups work together, giving you a taste of just how interdisciplinary the field of drug innovation is.
You can also specialise by choosing the Experimental Pharmacology or Drug Regulatory Sciences track, taught by experts in each field. Other specialisations are the Management, Education or Communication tracks.
Cutting-edge research possibilities
You can complete a part of your study at another institution in the Netherlands or abroad. It is also possible to complete your minor project at universities or institutes, small start-up companies, or pharmaceutical companies outside Utrecht University. For example, medical nutrition can be studied with Nutricia Research or Danone.
Life Sciences seminars
Life sciences seminars, led by renowned experts in the field, are held once a month. The aim of these seminars is to give you an overview of cutting-edge developments in the field of life sciences as a whole.
In summary, you will be fully supported in designing a programme that allows you to specialise in your own particular fields of interest. About 95% of our Master’s students found a job in drug innovation fields either before or shortly after graduation.
