Extracurricular Opportunities

Guest lectures and Seminars

All students in Comparative Literary Studies are actively encouraged to participate in the seminars and workshops organised by senior researchers. These include the monthly Comparative Literature Seminar at which faculty members present their research-in-progress as well as incidental activities relating to particular projects, including:

Humanities lectures

You are also strongly encouraged to attend the annual Humanities Lectures series, which will extend your awareness of broader Humanities issues. Previous series have been devoted to new developments in Digital Humanities and Europe. These lectures also provide the occasion to participate in cross-disciplinary debates.

Centre for Humanities

Utrecht is also home to a lively interdisciplinary Centre for Humanities. As a Research Master's student you can also register to attend these public debates and specialist events.

For more than 25 years now, Utrecht students in literary studies have edited and produced their own journal, Frame: Journal of Literary Studies. This offers a platform for publishing on emerging topics in the field. Students in Comparative Literary Studies regularly become involved in this journal as editors and as authors.

The seminars are hosted by distinguished researchers. Through close discussions with these researchers, you will get a better understanding of what it means to carry out interdisciplinary research, what obstacles researchers face, how to create a good research set-up and how to communicate about it with researchers from other disciplines as well as laymen.

The programme takes one year (7.5 ECTS). Would you like to know more about this programme? Read more about the Graduate Honours Interdisciplinary Seminars.
