House rules
Utrecht University Library wants to offer its visitors a pleasant and peaceful study environment. Please read our house rules below.
- Upon entering, or if there is reason to do so, a member of staff at Utrecht University Library may ask to see your ID, UU student card with photo, campus card (UU staff) or your reservation for a study place.
- Security staff are permitted to check coats and bags.
- Bicycle batteries are not permitted in the University Library buildings. You may not bring them inside to charge.
- Animals are not permitted, with the exception of certified guide dogs/assistance dogs.
- Visitors who cause a disturbance will be addressed. You may be asked to leave the building.
- If you are found to be causing (repeated) nuisance, vandalism, misuse of facilities and/or theft, you may be denied access to the library.
Coats, bags and other items
- You may bring your coat and bag into the University Library.
- When you use a locker to store your belongings, you must leave it open and empty at the end of the day. The University Library has the right to open lockers after closing time; any items found will be registered as lost property.
- Keep an eye on your belongings and do not leave them unattended. The University Library is not liable for damage to or theft of personal belongings.
- The University Library uses video surveillance to protect your and our property.
Food and drinks
- Eating and drinking are permitted, but please keep this to a minimum and do not cause any nuisance.
- Keep your area clean and clear away your rubbish.
- University library staff may speak to you about any nuisance and, if necessary, ask you to leave the building.
- If you cause (repeated) nuisance, you may be denied access to the library.
Calling
- Calling is permitted, as long as it does not cause any nuisance.
Smoking, alcohol and drugs
- Smoking is not permitted. This applies to all university buildings and outdoor areas.
- Alcohol and drug use is not permitted.
Evacuation
- In the event of an evacuation, leave the building immediately via the nearest emergency exit. Follow the instructions of emergency services and/or evacuation staff.
- Free study spaces, recognisable by the green sticker on the table, do not need to be reserved outside of the exam period.
- The other study spaces, recognisable by the red sticker on the table, must always be reserved in order to be used.
- During the exam period, you must always reserve a study space in order to use it.
- During the exam period, study places and group rooms may only be used by UU students and UU staff.
- You must always reserve a group room in advance.
- Always check in at your reserved study place or group room within half an hour, otherwise the place or room will be released.
- Are you not using your reservation for a study place or group room? Then cancel it so that the place becomes available again.
- If you are away from your place for more than 30 minutes, your belongings will be moved aside and the place will be released.
- You may not reserve study places or group rooms for others.
- Keep your study places and group rooms tidy.
- Photography and/or filming is only permitted with the permission of the University Library and the people you are photographing or filming.
- During exam periods, photography and filming are not permitted at all.
- Permission to photograph or film must be requested in advance via: library.communicatie@uu.nl
