Access to digital publications
Students, staff and visitors to Utrecht University have access to digital materials and databases for which the library has a licence. This page explains how to gain access.
Searching our collection and search systems
Are you on campus and connected to our Wi-Fi? Then you automatically have access. UU staff and students also have access outside of campus, by logging into our search engines with their Solis-id or via the browser extension Lean Library. Use the links below to access our collections and search systems.
WorldCat
In WorldCat, you will find digital material that is directly accessible from the search results. This includes online journals, journal articles and e-books. You will also find our physical collection, which you can request or reserve via WorldCat.
Digital journals in WorldCat
In the list of digital journals, you will find journals to which the library subscribes.
A-Z Search engines
The A-Z Search engines provide access to the databases, source collections and other digital materials for which the university library has licences. You will also find free search systems there. Use the filters to refine your search.
If you use this method to access a search system such as Google Scholar or PubMed, you will often find a UBUlink among the results. By clicking on this link, you can see whether the university library offers access to the digital publication.
Searching external databases and search engines
If you find material in an external search engine, such as Google Scholar, there are two ways to access publications:
- Via Lean Library. By using this extension, the website recognises that you work or study at Utrecht University. If the library has the publication in its collection, Lean Library will guide you to it.
- Because it is an open access publication. The publication is then freely accessible to everyone, everywhere.
Online access for guests
Guests only have online access on campus by connecting to our Wi-Fi network 'Utrecht University'. They need a guest Solis ID to do so. They do not have access to licensed materials, databases or search systems from home.
