Storing your data in Yoda

What kind of research data can you store?

Yoda allows you to store data of any type, sensitivity, and size. This includes large datasets (many files or large files), any file type, and sensitive personal data.

If you are planning on uploading multiple terrabytes (TB) of data on a regular basis, please inform your data manager beforehand, so that sufficient storage can be ensured.

Research versus the Vault

Yoda allows you to store your data package during your active research project, as well as archive it for the long-term. During your active project, your data package is stored in the Research environment. Here, you can work actively with your files. You do so in a “research group”, the main folder for your project. The names of all research groups start with “research-”. Within a research group, you and your collaborators are free to store files, create subfolders, et cetera.

From the Research environment, you can subsequently archive data packages in the Vault. The name of the folder will then start with “vault-” instead. How to archive data in the Vault is described in the guide Archiving your data.

Who can access my data?

You can only access files in another research group if you have been granted access to that group. Importantly, everyone who has access to a research group automatically has access to all subfolders in that research group.

How to store data in Yoda?

You can up- and download files from and to Yoda in multiple different ways. These are described in the Accessing Yoda guide.
