The YESS14 summer school will bring together around 84 young researchers in mathematics education from all over Europe in one place: Utrecht, the Netherlands. In line with the ERME Manifesto, YESS14 aims to provide an environment where young researchers can meet and develop a cooperative and supportive way of working, to enhance their PhD projects accordingly.

Festive opening in the Moestuin On the first day, Sunday, 2 August 2026, we will gather at De Moestuin, a charming, cosy venue that grows its own vegetables. During the festive opening, you’ll receive an overview of the summer school and meet your peers from your Topic Working Group. The programme will then flow seamlessly into an opening dinner, offering a relaxed setting to get to know everyone.
Wander & Lunch in the Botanic Gardens The Utrecht University Botanic Gardens cover nine hectares and are overflowing with natural splendor. Discover the enormous rock garden, evolution garden, tropical greenhouses and the bird-watching hut in and around Fort Hoofddijk. At YESS, every participant will have free access to these gardens. These are ideal to be used during lunch time to network. On Monday, 3 August, 2026, we will also enjoy our lunch time here.
Explore the city of Utrecht On Thuesday, 4 August 2026, we stop the academic part of the summer school at 15:30, the rest of the afternoon is free to spend in Utrecht. For the adventurous among you, Amsterdam is just a 20-minute train ride from Utrecht and also a possibility.
Night Canoeing On Thursday, 6 August 2026, we’ll close the summer school with a magical evening on Utrecht’s canals. Paddle through the city at sunset and under the full moon, with a short stop at a local café. The final stretch, passing low bridges, adds a touch of adventure to this unforgettable experience.
