Dr. Susanne Knittel

Susanne Knittel is an Assistant Professor of Comparative Literature. Originally from Germany, she obtained her PhD in Italian and Comparative Literature at Columbia University in New York.
In her book The Historical Uncanny (2015), she explores how the Second World War and the Holocaust are remembered in Germany and Italy. Her current Veni project focuses on the representation of perpetrators of mass violence in literature, in movies, and at monument sites.

Susanne Knittel has been a member of the Utrecht Young Academy, a bridge between young and talented researchers, since 2017.
