Dr. Michelle Teunissen

Michelle Teunissen is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Clinical Sciences at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. She combines her veterinary background with a strong focus on translational research from a One Medicine perspective. Her research focuses on osteoarthritis and pain, with particular interest in how changes within joint tissues relate to chronic pain. By combining advanced in vitro models with tissue-derived- and clinical data from dogs with osteoarthritis, she aims to better understand biologically relevant mechanisms and contribute to the development of new treatment strategies.

Michelle Teunissen has been a member of the Utrecht Young Academy, a bridge between young and talented researchers, since 2026.
