Jorke Kamstra is assistant professor at the Division of Toxicology, Institute for Risk Assessment Sciences (IRAS), Department of Population Health Sciences, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Utrecht University. His interest lies in how chemicals in our environment, such as endocrine disruptors, act on the complex mechanisms that drive gene expression, leading to disease. Deciphering how these epigenetic mechanisms influence gene pathways, and how epigenetic reprogramming is entangled in these processes are his main focus points.

He teaches Endocrine, Reproductive and Developmental toxicology in BSc and MSc programs and co-coordinates the Toxicology Track in the new GSLS program Health and Environment.

To improve chemical risk assessment we need to understand how and to what extent chemicals influence molecular biological mechanisms that lead to disease.

Jorke Kamstra has been a member of the Utrecht Young Academy, a bridge between young and talented researchers, since 2022.
