Dr. Annelies Pieterman-Bos

Dr. Annelies Pieterman-Bos is a researcher at the Education Center of the UMC Utrecht. Her background is in medicine and life sciences with a PhD in life sciences education research. In her current research and teaching, she aims to understand and inform students’ and researchers’ conceptions of how reliable scientific knowledge is produced, including how this is shaped by epistemic, moral and social values. Her research, teaching and educational innovation in the biomedical programmes and the PhD-programme Life Sciences Education Research are informed by practice-oriented philosophy of science and Open Science.

Annelies is an active member of several Open Science initiatives. Her contributions mainly focus on Open Science in education and on how openness, collaboration, and inclusivity can be fostered in qualitative research. Her broader goal is to promote further adoption of open science practices and open education with critical reflection on whether and how these practices can improve quality, collective benefit, equity and inclusiveness in research and education. Next to this, Annelies leads efforts to develop more effective support structures for higher education research.

Lorena De Vita has been a member of the Utrecht Young Academy, a bridge between young and talented researchers, since 2026.
