Fenna Roovers

Fenna Roovers's bachelor thesis project in physics concerns the history and philosophy of (the energy of) gravitational waves, starting with Einstein's 1916 paper where he shows that the theory of general relativity leads to gravitational waves. The project traces the subsequent history of arguments for and against the existence of (various components of) gravitational waves based on whether they do or do not carry energy, and furthermore analyses Einstein's first hint (in that same paper) towards the need for a theory of quantum gravity.
