Algebraic Topology
Our group has interest in many facets of modern homotopy theory, in particular focusing on:
- Chromatic homotopy theory
- Equivariant homotopy theory
- Functor calculus
- Higher category theory
- Homotopy type theory
- K-theory, TC and THH
- Topological and Infinity-Operads
- Unstable homotopy theory
We have special interest in topics where these facets interact, for example:
- Studying unstable chromatic homotopy theory via the spectral Lie operad.
- Developing equivariant versions of important cohomology theories in chromatic homotopy theory, like topological modular forms.
- Modeling higher categories in homotopy type theory.
- Studying the chromatic behaviour of K-theory and TC.
We are also interested in interactions with neighboring fields like algebraic geometry, computer science, differential topology, logic or mathematical physics. Our members are part of the Dutch cluster on Geometry and Quantum Theory (GQT).
Events

TopICS
The Topology Intercity Seminar is a joint seminar organized together with the algebraic topologists from Radboud University Nijmegen and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.

Reading seminars
The group organizes various reading seminars. The current one is on Ambidexterity and cyclotomic redshift.

Courses and minicourses
The group offers various courses aimed at master and PhD students. The last iteration of the MSc seminar was about K-Theory and complex-oriented cohomology theories. The last minicourse was on Synthetic spectra.

Higher Geometric Structures along the Lower Rhine
This is a biyearly event jointly organised between the universities of Bonn, Cologne, Nijmegen and Utrecht. Its focus lies on the development and application of new structures in geometry and topology

Kan lectures
The Kan lectures are yearly lecture series by renowned mathematicians, established to honour Dutch mathematician Daniel Kan (1927-2013). The 2025 speaker was Søren Galatius.

EAST
The European Autumn School in Topology is a yearly autum school, mainly aimed at PhD students. The 2026 edition will take place during the week September 14-18, close to Utrecht.
