We regularly welcome new PhD students to our dynamic team, offering opportunities for talented individuals passionate about pharmaceutical policy, Health Technology Assessment or regulatory science. The next call for new students is expected to take place in 2026. 

UU employed PhD students

The PhD programme is designed for candidates with a Dutch MSc or an equivalent foreign qualification in life sciences, such as Pharmacy or Pharmaceutical Sciences. Ideal candidates are team players with strong communication skills, a high level of initiative, and a drive to achieve excellence. Proficiency in English, both written and spoken, is essential.PhD students at the Centre are embedded within the Utrecht Institute for Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), providing them with access to a vibrant academic environment and extensive research facilities.

Professional PhDs

We offer an international high-quality PhD-programme for professionals with several years of relevant work experience. The unique format of the programme combines academic research and public health practice requiring candidates to use their work experience, data and policy issues as input for their PhD-thesis. We are a leading platform for independent multidisciplinary research which links drug regulation, pharmacoepidemiology, public health, policy analysis, and Health Technology Assessment. The Centre is based at the Division of Pharmacoepidemiology and Clinical Pharmacology of Utrecht University in the Netherlands, an internationally acclaimed research institute. The Division has strong ties with many other partners at the national and international level.

Research Themes

Our work concentrates on the design and evaluation of pharmaceutical policies with a focus on Global Health, Drug Regulatory Science, and Health Technology Assessment. Work of the applicant should be in this field. Applicants with (research) experience in these fields are especially invited to apply.
