The Week of the Imagination
A Call for Collaboration
The Urban Futures Studio is celebrating its 10th anniversary together with 25 years of the Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development! To mark the occasion, we are organising The Week of Imagination from 14 to 18 September 2026, during which we will reflect on this milestone – together with colleagues, students, designers, policymakers and everyone who has been involved with the studio over the past 10 years. The objective? Taking others on the journey we have undertaken as a studio, and to share knowledge that others can then apply in their own (learning) environments.
What forms of imagination are successful? What new approaches might we embrace – in education, the world of policy and society as a whole? And what influence does imagination have on the practice of democracy? Everywhere we hear the call for “more imagination.” But imagination is not unambiguous: there is a politics of imagination. We want to help circulate new, diverse visions of the future. So that citizens can once again see that there is something to choose from. The Week of the Imagination is about inspiration and connection. And hopefully, everyone who participates will then set out with renewed determination.
Program
In addition to the programme above, an exhibition on the Urban Futures Studio and our techniques of futuring will be on display throughout the week in the VM-A building at Utrecht University.
