Transforming Cities seed money call

Are you an UU researcher involved in research on urban sustainability transformations? Are you looking for initial funding in order to collaborate with researchers from other disciplines and faculties? Do you need financial support to realize larger research applications in this field or to organize innovative workshops? Do you want to initiate collaborations with agents of change and contribute to sustainability transformations of cities? Then this seed funding might be suited for you!

Aim

With the seed money fund, the research hub “Transforming Cities” intends to broaden its scope beyond its core project on urban infrastructures to stimulate new research ideas on transformations to sustainable cities. The hub's ambition with this call is to support innovative ideas and perspectives on urban transformations and stimulate internal and external collaborations. 

We invite applications from members of Utrecht University for seed funding that reflect an innovative approach in exploring urban sustainability transformations. More specifically, we offer seed funding for activities that

  • aim to acquire external funding for research activities on urban sustainability transformations (e.g., by providing funding for teaching replacement and/or hiring research assistants for proposal writing or consortium building);
  • develop collaborations with urban stakeholders to tackle sustainability challenges and to develop and innovate the transdisciplinary agenda of the hub and the strategic theme (e.g., workshop funding; hiring support staff);
  • improve or shape conceptual or empirical perspectives on urban transformations with the potential of theory development (e.g., funding for academic workshops, major publication projects); and/or
  • develop innovative educational initiatives on urban transformations with an impact on current curricula (e.g., new initiatives in community-engaged learning or lifelong learning)

You can apply at any time by submitting the proposal through email to the hub manager (future.cities@uu.nl). The hub’s core team will discuss the proposals and decide within three weeks.
