Room for Risk: When is something a mistake?
On January 30, 2023, we spoke with four experts about the space for risk in science. This was the fourth public dialogue in the series New Perspectives on Illness and Health.
When is Something a Mistake?
Mistakes have a negative connotation. We often try to avoid them and hesitate to discuss them when they do occur. Yet mistakes are an unavoidable part of life. But is it always appropriate to label something a mistake? Or would it be better to speak of unexpected outcomes? Does our focus on avoiding mistakes limit the space we allow for risk? We explored these questions with the public and a panel of experts.
