General theoretical framework (WP1)

Regime interaction and legal change in the international legal order

This work package (WP1) will aim at realising 3 research objectives:

  1. developing a new line of research based on the analysis of competing interests in ocean governance;
  2. testing the existing theories and approaches and assessing which one (if any) is relevant and useful in order to identify and explain the patterns of interaction between law of the sea, climate change and energy law; and
  3. drawing on the lessons of present analyses for a more general understanding of regime interaction and legal change in the international legal order.

The research in WP1 will be performed predominantly by the Principal Investigator, dr. Seline Trevisanut, and will concentrate on analysing the relevant practice (normative and institutional) through different theories which have dealt with regime interactions.
