John Robinson
Professor Robinson is a leading academic at the University of Toronto who engages in problem-driven interdisciplinarity in which research participants work in tandem with partners in the community to bring different forms of knowledge to bear on societal problems.
Arnim Wiek
Arnim Wiek is an Associate Professor in the School of Sustainability at Arizona State University and the head of the Sustainability Transition and Intervention Research Lab.
Roald Lapperre
Roald Lapperre is Director-General for the Environment and International Affairs at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management.
Anton Pijpers
Professor Anton Pijpers is the President of the Executive Board of Utrecht University.
Maarten Hajer
Professor Maarten Hajer is Distinguished Professor of Urban Futures and Scientific Director of the university-wide strategic theme 'Pathways to Sustainability'.
Vanessa Timmer
Dr. Vanessa Timmer is the Executive Director of One Earth, a Vancouver, Canada-based environmental ‘think and do tank’ focused on sustainable consumption and production.
Breukers Godrie
The prize-winning creative thinkers Breukers Godrie will provide a light-hearted intermezzo at the conference. Their Ark of the Newest Covenant, a travelling exhibition about the transition to sustainable cities, will make an appearance as well.
Aimée Slangen
Dr. Aimée Slangen works at the Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ). Her primary research interest is (regional) sea-level change as a consequence of climate change. She takes a broad approach towards her work and studies both global and regional sea-level change. She includes as many contributions as possible and looks both at the recent past (20th century) and at projecting future changes for 21st century and beyond. At NIOZ her research focuses on understanding and projecting (regional) sea-level changes, and on translating these to the coastal/delta/estuarine environment.
Marjan Minnesma
Marjan Minnesma is Director of Urgenda, a Dutch foundation that aims for a fast transition towards a sustainable society, with a focus on the transition towards a circular economy using only renewable energy. Urgenda works on solutions for this transition, including the introduction and realisation of 'energy neutral' houses and the acceleration of electric mobility. Urgenda considers climate change as one of the biggest challenges of our times and looks for solutions to ensure that the earth will continue to be a safe place to live for future generations.
Michiel van den Broeke
Michiel van den Broeke is Professor of Polar Meteorology at Utrecht University. His main research interest is to understand the climate and mass balance of the large ice sheets of Greenland and Antarctica. His research group combines experimental work with regional atmospheric models, in close collaboration with the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI).
Bert Weckhuysen
Bert Weckuysen is Distinguished Utrecht University Professor in Catalysis, Energy and Sustainability. He aims to connect fundamental science with societal challenges.
Rens Voesenek
Rens Voesnek is Professor of Plant Ecophysiology at Urecht University and will lead the break-out session on Future food.
Hans Middelkoop
Hans Middelkoop is Professor of Global Change Geomorphology at Utrecht University and will lead the interactive break-out session on Water, climate and future deltas.
Gert Jan Kramer
Professor Gert Jan Kramer works on sustainable energy supply systems at Utrecht University. He will lead the break-out session on Deep Decarbonisation of the Energy System.
Marco Waas
At AkzoNebel Marco Waas, Director RD&I, is responsible for the Research, Development, Innovation and Technology of the AkzoNobel Industrial Chemical Business Unit. Ensuring the Portfolio is aligned with and delivering to the BU Strategy, focused on market and cost leadership. Key elements are biobased/circular materials, process intensification, and Industry 4.0.
