Our system oriented research provides clues on what could be done to mitigate or adapt to climate change. How this could be done is studied in the research line Governance and Law. Here legal obstacles and opportunities for mitigation and adaptation measures are studies as well as governance arrangements to make these possible.

Research questions

  • What are resilient and appropriate Flood Risk Governance Arrangements (FRGAs) for dealing with flood risks in vulnerable urban agglomerations in Europe?
  • What contribution can law deliver to a sustainable management of oceans and freshwater systems, on the basis of mutual responsibilities, and to the pursuit of an equitable distribution of associated natural resources?
When it comes to water and sustainability issues, you have to look at all groups in society as well as at the future
