Societal impact

Apart from the scientific output in the form of peer-reviewed papers WCE research has considerable societal impact. For instance,

  • WCE research is prominent in the last IPCC report,
  • several EU projects
  • and contributes amongst others to flood risk assessments,
  • water scarcity analyses and adaptation,
  • real-time flood forecasting,
  • managing terrestrial ecosystems,
  • underpinning fisheries quota,
  • global integrated assessments,
  • designing nature-based coastal defences,

providing regional scenarios for climate change and sea-level change. These contributions to mitigation and adaptation to environmental change are provided in close cooperation with our partners that constitute the bridge between science and society.
