Engineering the Seeds of Knowledge

Engineering the Seeds of Knowledge

The project combines ethnographic research and big data analysis to assess global resistance against agrochemical corporations. In specific, it explores how the dynamics and anatomy of activist movements can be understood as ontological projects that revolve around the production (and contestation) of truths about corporate information, impact, and intention. The project’s primary focus is on the case of Monsanto, a controversial Missouri-based corporation (recently acquired by Bayer) that is one of the world’s largest producers of pesticides and genetically modified crop seeds. Research on anti-Monsanto activism is conducted in Europe (Germany), the United States (Hawaii), and in online realms (Twitter).
