Procrastination and Task Aversion

Self-regulation failure can take on different shapes. By studying procrastination and its precursors we gain more insight into these processes that can impact people’s goal pursuit. Several projects in our Lab focus on these processes, for example by studying bedtime procrastination. Another line of research focuses on task aversion; the resistance that one can feel for behaviours that are necessary to act in line with long-term goals. Individual differences in task aversion may help explain why some people can pursue their long-term goals seemingly effortlessly, while others need to invest more effort.
