Education

Our teaching covers the historical development of philosophy in the classical (Greco-Roman) world, the Middle Ages (including philosophical thought in Islamic culture) and the early modern and modern periods into the 21st century. The research group has an important role in teaching.

We see the historiography of philosophy as an independent discipline with its own profile, characterised by an adequate foundation in sources and attention to historical contextualisation. From this objective, we cooperate with the other discipline groups on joint courses (e.g. the Core readings in the research master).

Bachelor

In the bachelor Filosofie, we introduce students to philosophy, contribute to in-depth and advanced level courses, and supervise many theses.

Masters

We are involved - in collaboration with other groups - in courses of the research master's in Philosophy and of various master's programmes such as History and Philosophy of Science

Minors

Important to us is teaching non-philosophy students, such as through the minors:

Honours

We are involved in honours programmes within the university, such as Humanities Honours and Descartes College.

Outside the university

Outside the university, our activities include HOVO (Higher Education for Elders).
