Transitional Flanks
The NPUH is flanked by urbanized and agricultural areas where nature is impacted by emissions of fertilization and pesticides and artificial lowering of groundwater levels through drainage in ditches. The biodiversity on the flanks is impoverished, partly due to the use of monocultures, and the landscape is therefore more vulnerable to weather extremes. The flanks of the NPUH are therefore in need of strengthening and restoring biodiversity values, in combination with more extensive agriculture and a robust water system.

BSc consultancy project: Implementing climate adaptation strategies for the agricultural and natural transition
Proposals are made to make the Utrechtse Heuvelrug more climate-adaptive, but space is limited. Combining the climate adaptation transition with other transitions can help to use land use as efficiently as possible. This report investigates which climate adaptation measures can best be used for both climate adaptation and the agricultural and nature transitions.
