Introduction to GitHub
Git is a distributed version control system that allows you to automatically version code and that enables multiple developers to work on the same codebase. GitHub is a web-based platform providing hosting for Git projects. This workshop will provide an introduction to Git and GitHub.
This half-day workshop is suitable for beginners, and will introduce Git and GitHub, powerful tools for collaboration and research.
Workshop Topics
- Understand the basics and benefits of automated version control
- Understand the modify-add-commit cycle in Git
- Learn about where information is stored at each stage
- Learn how to recover old versions of files

Prerequisites
- Suitable for beginners (though some experience with bash is an advantage).
- Open to anyone from Utrecht University (UU) or UU-affiliated organisations (for example, UMC Utrecht).
Costs
There are no costs associated with this workshop. If you register, we count on your attendance so please let us know in advance if you don’t plan to come.
Credits
This workshop has a study load of 4 hours. Due to the short duration of this workshop, you cannot earn ECTS for attending.
