Relationships and Work

Family-work spillover

Spillover occurs when stress and strain in one domain (such as work) impacts functioning in another domain, for example the relationships with partner and children. Conversely, relationship problems and distress are bound to affect how partners function in other life domains, such as parenting and work. We study these spillover processes and how they impact well-being. In addition, we study how couples divide paid work, housework and childcare and whether traditional and non-traditional couples differ in relationship quality.

Forgiveness in work relationships

Work relationships are important to the lives of employees as well as the effectiveness of the organisation. However, maintaining stable work relationships is not easy given the inevitable conflicts taking place at work. We examine whether and when forgiveness benefits work outcomes (e.g., job satisfaction, work engagement and burnout) and which organisational factors facilitate forgiveness in work relationships.
