Needs and values

A driving force of relationship maintenance is the fulfillment of basic psychological needs, in particular, the needs for relatedness and autonomy. Combining theoretical insights from self-determination theory and family systems theory, we investigate to what extent relatedness and autonomy need fulfillment interact to affect relationship maintenance behaviour.
We also explore how personal values affect romantic relationship functioning. Dating websites frequently mention the importance of values in finding the right match. Could it be the case that some types of values imperil our chances of success at happiness in our romantic relationships?
