The Relationships Lab is a research and teaching laboratory from the department of Social, Health and Organisational Psychology at Utrecht University. We investigate different aspects of interpersonal relationships. Our lab does experimental, cross-sectional, longitudinal and intervention studies using self-report, dyadic data, and experience sampling methods. We share our knowledge with society through teaching and collaborating with professionals and policy makers. We care about a working environment that is inclusive, transparent, critical, fosters collaboration, and helps us have fun while doing great science.

Our mission

How do relationships work? What are the ingredients of happy and unhappy relationships? And what are the consequences of relationship maintenance versus separation? These are central questions in our work. Interpersonal relationships are of great importance to our physical, mental and social well-being. In the Relationships Lab we study interpersonal processes that take place in close relationships, in parent-child relationships, between ex-partners, and between individuals in groups and organisations. In our research and teaching we address the determinants of relationships as well as the effects on the well-being of those involved. It is our mission to better understand how relationships work and to share our scientific knowledge with professionals and the general public.
