To repair the infarcted heart

This thesis is focussed on how we can repair the infarcted heart. We investigate methods to prevent cardiomyocyte cell death following ischemia/reperfusion injury, methods to model hypoxic damage in an in vitro system and methods to induce cardiomyocyte proliferation.

Furthermore we assess the use of a hydrogel to mediate drug delivery and determine biodistribution after cardiac injection. 

With this thesis we move towards a therapy to prevent the progression to heart failure.
