Research

Our goal is to develop new regenerative treatments that will lessen the burden of disease.
Regenerative Medicine in Utrecht (RMU) aims to address unmet medical need by combining our body’s own repair abilities together with innovative engineering and translational research. We focus on three themes: CardioRenal Tissue Regeneration, Musculoskeletetal Tissue Regeneration. Stem Cell & Organoid Biology. Interwoven among these themes are fundamental science, enabling technologies and clinical research. Thereby, we have the capacity in Utrecht to bring an idea from concept to standard patient care.
Within the theme CardioRenal Tissue Regeneration, we focus on advanced heart failure and associated complications, including failing blood vessels and kidney disease.
Within the theme Musculoskeletal Tissue Regeneration, we focus on bone and cartilage tissue engineering, and maxillofacial bone regeneration (the face, mouth, and jaws).
Normal developmental processes often reappear during disease progression and in response to injury.
