Lecture series

poster lecture series politieke geschiedenis

What is political history now? What does writing political history in the 21st century entail? What are the main themes in current political historical scholarship? Which future pathways of political history are important? In our lectures in Political History internationally renowned scholars from the field of political history address these questions from the perspective of their research.

The lectures are held several times every academic year and are open to staff and students from Utrecht University and beyond. Each lecture is followed by complimentary drinks. We look forward to welcoming you at the lectures.

Our past lectures 2023 include:

  • David A. Bell, Princeton University, "Charisma, Emotions, and Political Leadership in the Age of Revolution".
  • Barbara Stollberg-Rilinger, Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin, "King Frederick William I of Prussia and the History of Masculinity: Challenges of Biographical Writing".
  • Anton Jäger, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, and Daniel Zamora Vargas, Université Libre de Bruxelles, "A Global History of Basic Income".
  • Natalia Aleksiun, University of Florida, "Mass Violence and Victim Agency: Rescue Strategies of Jewish Physicians in Nazi Occupied Poland".
