Theoretical philosophy topics
Within the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, the theoretical philosophy group offers courses on a broad range of topics: logic, philosophy of language, philosophy of mind, epistemology, philosophy of science, philosophy of artificial intelligence, metaphysics, metaphilosophy, mathematics and complexity theory.
Many of these courses focus on the nature of reasoning and thinking: What is it that makes an argument correct? What are rational beliefs and actions? How can we formally model reasoning? How do thought and language represent the world?
- Together with colleagues within the department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, the theoretical philosophy group teaches the BA Filosofie and RMA programme Philosophy.
- Together with colleagues from Linguistics, Computer Science and Psychology the group takes care of the BA Kunstmatige Intelligentie and MA programme Artificial Intelligence.
- In collaboration with colleagues from the Descartes Centre, the group contributes to the MA programme in History and Philosophy of Science.
- The group also contributes to several minors, elective courses, and the Honours programmes of the Faculty of Humanities.
