Research Data Board
The Research Data Board is Utrecht University's central coordinating body for everything related to research data and the software developed for this purpose. The board provides strategic advice to the Executive Board on how data can be made available in a FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable), secure, ethical and sustainable manner.
Why does the university need a body like this?
Open Science is central to UU's strategy. The growing volume and increasing sensitivity of research data bring new challenges: privacy legislation, security risks, rapid technological developments (e.g. AI) and the need to make data truly reusable. Without an overarching body, we tackle issues in a fragmented and ad hoc manner. Issues surrounding research data are complex and must therefore be investigated and addressed with broad expertise and as comprehensively as possible.
Who sits on the Research Data Board?
The Research Data Board consists of 14 members with a number of permanent positions and a number of rotating positions, representing as broad a range of research and organisational domains as possible.
