Advanced NMR Course

"Advanced NMR Spectroscopy"

An advanced course for training PhD students in different aspects of modern NMR for molecular and cellular studies of biomolecules and materials will be organized by the NMR centers of the universities of Utrecht, Nijmegen, Leiden, Wageningen and Eindhoven in collaboration with TI-Coast.

The course covers theoretical aspects, state-of-the-art methodology and applications. It is intended for PhD students, advanced undergraduate students and researchers, who already have a good knowledge of and practical experience with NMR spectroscopy.

The course will be given for 2 weeks and consists of lectures and practical sessions.

October 8-12, 2012 Goudsmit Paviljoen for NMR, Nijmegen

Course contents:

Product operators. Anisotropic interactions. Dynamics. Relaxation theory. Pulse sequences building blocks for solution-state NMR, solid-state NMR and imaging. Diffusion and imaging techniques. Dynamic nuclear polarization. Biomolecular solution-state NMR. Biomolecular solid-state NMR. NMR of materials. Modeling and computation in NMR (molecular dynamics, docking, DFT). Industrial applications (metabolomics, drug discovery, materials).
The acquired knowledge will be directly applied in the practical sessions.

Prerequisite knowledge:

The course is intended for Ph.D. students and advanced undergraduate students (primarily of the participating institutes) who already have a thorough knowledge of NMR spectroscopy.

Registration:

Please send an email to the NMR secretariat (Barbara Hendricx: secr@nmr.chem.uu.nl) and indicate your NMR background. Attach a short CV in your email. International applicants should provide a short recommendation letter by their supervisor.

Participation is free for members of the participating institutes. The registration fee for participants from other universities amounts to Euro 500.-, for TI-Coast participants Euro 2500,- and others Euro 5000,-. Participants should cover their own travel and lodging expenses.

The NMR research group co-organizes an EMBO NMR course on multidimensional NMR in structural biology. This course is co-sponsored by the European Initiative for Training in NMR and should take place every second years. The course covers NMR theory and methodology for the study of the structure and dynamics of biomolecules in solution.
