Water Cultures

From rivers, lakes and glaciers to estuaries, seas and oceans, our planet is undergoing rapid water changes leading to increased cultural adaptation. This thematic group considers what it means to live in watery environments and their cultural representations. What does it mean to 'live with water' in the past, present and future? How can we relate to evolving environments and their consequences for human and nonhuman species?

Working with partners in the water field (museums, governmental bodies, and other cultural institutions), as well as with those that are shaped by water directly and indirectly (think politics, artistic practice, and activism) we aim to establish ongoing relationships between the Environmental Humanities and external societal partners, and develop the impact of our research knowledge on water cultures to wider societal needs.
