About Gender, Migration and Global Justice

The Gender, Migration and Global Justice community provides a demand-driven network that focuses on analyzing and solving urgent societal issues on topics such as migration, (im)mobility, gender equality and diversity as put forward by our societal partners. As such, it provides a meeting ground for both researchers and stakeholders, to exchange and enhance their expertise across disciplines, to share and develop best practices and to put possible solutions to the test with a view to truly contributing to the empowerment of under-represented groups in society and to combating stereotyping.

Empowering under-represented groups and combating stereotyping

Our community brings together a wide and exceptional expertise available at Utrecht University and faciltates the growing need for collaboration between interdisciplinary research and societal partners. Our community’s focus on gender and migration not only brings together scholars to study two defining factors of an open and inclusive society, but also enables a comparative and intersectional lens through which to understand the institutional, political and social forces endangering the openness of societies. Gender and migration are two focal points that are more than the sum of their parts; a combined focus permits an innovative and intersectional lens through which to understand challenges to democracy, questions of injustice and how to uphold and strengthen the ideal of an inclusive and open society.

We work within different Special Interest Groups (SIG) within four key-pillars.

Four key pillars

  • Intersectionality, Representation and Participation

  • Migration, (Im)mobility, and Emancipation

  • Care, Solidarity, and Relational Justice

  • MOOC: Inequality and democracy

    Democracy, Law, and Fairness
